Aaron D. Olver, Deputy Secretary

On February 5, 2007, Department of Commerce Secretary Mary P. Burke appointed Aaron D. Olver Deputy Secretary in the Office of the Secretary.

Prior to his appointment, Olver served as policy director for Governor Jim Doyle's Transition Team. He was also self-employed as a strategy consultant, advising a family of companies on management and business strategy. Sample projects included identifying and assessing $25 million in growth opportunities for a $60- million business unit. Olver spent three years as a strategy consultant for McKinsey and Company, Chicago, IL. He created a technology-based economic development strategy for the City of Chicago, and helped organize an alternative investment unit of a large public pension fund. Olver also co-led a national research project to document the best practices for gubernatorial transitions, resulting in the development of a handbook now in use across the nation.

Olver serves on the Pathways to Excellence Advisory Board, advising the UW-Madison's College of Letters and Science on undergraduate education enrichment programs.

Olver earned a BA in Economics at UW-Madison, and completed graduate study in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, Oxford, UK, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
