Division of Safety and Buildings Joins FIATECH

When you visit the FIATECH web site you will find the following mission statement:

FIATECH provides global leadership in identifying and accelerating the development, demonstration and deployment of fully integrated and automated technologies to deliver the highest business value throughout the life cycle of all types of capital projects.

In achieving this mission, FIATECH has developed a "Roadmap for Capital Projects" to ensure right technologies are developed and in the order that delivers the highest business value across all phases and processes of the capital project life cycle.

Tremendous advances in technology continue to have a profound impact on the building industry from design to documentation to construction. FIATECH is the capital projects industry-action group that makes the highest impact on delivering successful enterprise connectivity and work-site technology solutions. The member-driven projects produce the most comprehensive collection of technology assets available from any industry organization. The Division of Safety and Buildings, recognizing this imminent shift in how we communicate, has joined FIATECH a consortium first and foremost that includes global leaders in industry, academics and research. Along with the Department of Administration the Division of Safety and Buildings is one of the first state government agencies to join FIATECH to better serve the needs of Wisconsin's stakeholders.

From building information models (BIM) to model checking software (MCS) the regulatory industry is also facing changes that may have profound impact on the delivery of services. New construction and renovation of existing buildings to comply with the safety, energy conservation and environmental requirements contained in modern building codes have repeatedly demonstrated to be vital to our nation's economy and critical to ensuring the welfare and safety of our public. Technology has provided us unimaginable access to knowledge and technology. By participating as an active member of this dynamic consortium the Division of Safety and Buildings can contribute to stimulating a jurisdiction's economy while assuring adequate safety. Outdated construction codes and their administrative processes as well as overly complex or inefficient administration of building regulatory programs can be barriers to economic development and community response to and recovery from disasters. FIATECH's "Streamlining the Building and Land Use Regulatory Processes" project faces this challenge by better coordinating jurisdiction, construction and building owner uses of innovative technologies.

The Wisconsin Building Safety Network (WBSN) was established in 2007 to provide all municipalities in Wisconsin the tools and resources necessary to meet the needs of those conducting business and living in Wisconsin. Through our membership in FIATECH the Division of Safety and Buildings is excited to provide our municipalities that resource.
