WTO Publishes World Trade Report 2008
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has published its World Trade Report 2008: Trade in a Globalizing World.  This report addresses known gains from international trade and highlights the challenges arising from higher levels of integration.  It also considers who the winners and losers are from trade and what complementary action is needed from policy-makers to secure the benefits of trade for society at large.

The report addresses a variety of issues and provides an in-depth look at the impact of globalization on trade, the causes of trade, distributional consequences, and policy implication of global integration. Some of the topics covered include:
  • trends in globalization
  • public attitudes to globalization
  • falling international trade costs
  • trade and inequality
  • dealing with the social consequences of liberalization
The report reviews both the theoretical gains from trade and empirical evidence that can help to answer serious questions.  The full report is available on-line at http://www.wto.org/english/res_e/booksp_e/anrep_e/wtr08-0b_e.pdf.
