Olympic Business in London
When the International Olympic Committee chose London as the site of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it launched one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects.  Billions of dollars will be spent to regenerate London’s East End and to transform it into an environmentally friendly and sustainable site for the various Olympic events.

More than 7,000 contracts are up for tender which, together with their suppliers, will form supply chains of around 75,000 opportunities.  While construction forms the lion’s share of the London 2012 budget, opportunities exist across a whole spectrum of industries including communications, business services, logistics, overlay and retail.

There are three major contracting authorities for the Olympic and Paralympic Games: the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), the London 2012 Organizing Committee (LOCOG), and the London Development Agency (LDA).  The ODA will award the majority of the contracts for infrastructure, transport and construction of the venues of the Games. LOCOG will award most of the services to deliver and stage the Games themselves, covering goods and services from sports equipment to catering. Most LOCOG contracts will be awarded from 2009 onwards. The LDA will award contracts for the transformation of the Olympic Park after the Games.

The U.S. Commercial Service has issued several reports on business opportunities related to the London Games.  Click here for a list.

Any company wishing to compete for Olympics-related projects should register first for Business e-alerts at Business Network website and then with CompeteFor.  Referred to as a business dating agency, CompeteFor matches companies to thousands of opportunities to supply London 2012 contractors.  After registering basic company information, any interested business can view the opportunities advertised. Companies must then complete a business profile to be able to compete for opportunities.
