Wisconsin Sales Success in Iraq
Outline map and flag of IraqAquarius Systems of North Prairie, a manufacturer of aquatic weed harvesters, reports a successful introduction to the Iraqi market.  The firm has delivered four of the 10 Swamp Devil Aquatic Vegetation Cutters that were ordered by the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources.  The fifth machine is currently being prepared for shipment and the remaining five are in various stages of fabrication.

This is the second Iraqi project for Aquarius Systems.  In 2006 the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization purchased several weed harvesters, transport barges, and support equipment and donated them to the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources.  Some of the machines have been put into use in Iraq to clean the Al Kafel and Al Mahaweel waterways in Babil.  The project is making water available to irrigate 250,000 acres of farmland.

In January of this year, three technicians of the Iraqi ministry travelled to Wisconsin to inspect the first Swamp Devil units before shipping.  After the visit to Wisconsin, the Iraqis went to Florida to see in action other Aquarius equipment that could be used in the Iraqi government’s rebuilding efforts.  Aquarius Systems is developing more Iraqi projects and looks forward to growing their business in a part of the world often overlooked by Wisconsin exporters.

Wisconsin’s exports to Iraq were up 7.4 percent in 2008, totaling $14.6 million.  Most of the Wisconsin products shipped there were transportation equipment and industrial machinery.
