Governor Doyle Announces $240,000 Grant to Village of Ladysmith
For Immediate Release: September 28, 2007 MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle today announced that the City of Ladysmith, Rusk County, will receive a $240,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program. The grant will be used to help the village improve its downtown infrastructure. "Investing in infrastructure improves not only the flow of people and products, but also enhances the ability for communities like Ladysmith and local businesses to grow," Governor Doyle said. In 2002, a tornado hit downtown Ladysmith, resulting in extensive damage. The city is continuing to work with downtown businesses to accomplish recovery and spur business growth. It will use the grant to install a new downtown sewer system, purchase land for a park and gateway, and furnish public parking. Total project cost is $1,198,000. The Department of Commerce (Commerce) administers the CDBG Program. These CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
