Governor Doyle Announces $250,000 Grant to Village of Tigerton

For Immediate Release: October 11, 2007
Contact: Tony Hozeny, Department of Commerce, 608/267-9661

MADISON - Gov. Jim Doyle today announced that the Village of Tigerton, Shawano County, will receive a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities grant for downtown improvements.

"Investing in infrastructure improves not only the flow of people and products, but also enhances the ability for communities like Tigerton and local businesses to grow," Governor Doyle said.

"On behalf of the Village of Tigerton, I am very thankful and appreciative of the Department of Commerce grant," said John Gutho, Tigerton Village President. "The grant has enabled the Village to do a complete and thorough downtown revitalization that will greatly improve pedestrian safety, as well as the aesthetics of our downtown area."

The community will repair a seven-block section of County Trunk Highway M, including sanitary sewer, curb, gutter and sidewalk pavers. It will improve access for persons with disabilities and improve street lighting. The community will also relocate and refurbish 12 historical lighting posts. Total project cost is $1,026,308.

Tigerton has been active Main Street Community since 1993.

The Department of Commerce (Commerce) administers the CDBG Program. These CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
