Governor Doyle Announces MacDonald and Owen Lumber Co. Expansion

Project to create 18 jobs

MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle today announced that MacDonald and Owen Lumber Co., Inc., in Sparta will receive $230,000 in Technology Zone tax credits. The project is expected to create 18 new positions in Monroe County.

"I am pleased MacDonald and Owen Lumber Co. is making the necessary changes to meet the growing demands and competition of the industry," Governor Jim Doyle. "In order to compete in a knowledge-driven economy, Wisconsin needs to invest in innovation and research."

"This grant allows us to expand our markets, and positions us to add additional good jobs to the Wisconsin economy," said David Twite, CEO MacDonald and Owen Lumber Co., Inc.

MacDonald and Owen Lumber Co., Inc. was founded in 1968 as a hardwood lumber broker and wholesaler. Today the company manufactures high precision specialty wood products. The company plans to expand its manufacturing and warehouse operations by 50,000 sq. ft. and is also purchasing new equipment. Total cost of the project is $1,656,000.
