Governor Doyle Announces $1.02 Million for Manitowoc Cranes Expansion

Project to Create 157 Jobs for Hardworking Wisconsin Families

MANITOWOC - Governor Jim Doyle today announced he is providing $1.02 million in Enterprise Development Zone tax credits to Manitowoc Cranes to assist with a $25 million expansion that will create 157 jobs.

"Manitowoc Cranes is exactly the kind of company we are excited to have here in Wisconsin. Their commitment to developing unique, high-performance products help drive the future of this state," Governor Doyle said. "It gives me great pleasure today to announce that we are providing Manitowoc Cranes with $1,020,000 in Enterprise Development Zone tax credits to expand its Manitowoc and Port Washington facilities and create 157 jobs for hardworking Wisconsin families."

Manitowoc Cranes manufactures cranes, refrigeration and marine equipment. It will invest $25 million to expand its Manitowoc and Port Washington facilities and meet increasing worldwide demand.

In order to improve the competitiveness of Wisconsin's manufacturing sector in the global economy, Governor Doyle has launched a comprehensive plan to invest in the Next Generation of Manufacturing by focusing on efficiency and lean manufacturing principles. Governor Doyle's plan targets $85 million in tax credits to leverage $1.6 billion in private capital investment, creating 5,000 new jobs and training more than 4,000 workers for the manufacturing jobs of tomorrow.

To continue to stay ahead of the competition, Wisconsin's manufacturers must also invest more in research and development to improve existing products and develop new ones. Governor Doyle's Innovate Wisconsin initiatives provide new tax credits for businesses that significantly increase investment in research and development, allowing Wisconsin businesses to enhance their efforts to develop and grow in the new economy.
