License Now Required for LPG Distributors and Retailers

MADISON - Distributors and retailers filling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) containers are required to obtain a license from the Department of Commerce (Commerce) as a result of changes to Ch. Comm 5 and Ch. Comm 40, Wis. Adm. Code. Deadline is August 1, 2009.

"The licensing requirement promotes public safety by documenting the insurance, bonding and training of those engaged in distributing and selling LPG," said Commerce Secretary Richard J. Leinenkugel.

The liquefied gas supplier license applies to bulk retail LPG distribution facilities, hardware stores, outdoor appliance dealers, and LP gas grill supply centers. This license has a two-year term at a cost of $75, which includes the initial application fee of $15, and the license fee of $60.

The liquefied gas supplier - restricted license applies to campgrounds and coops. This license has a two-year term at a cost of $55, which includes the initial application fee of $15 and the license fee of $40.

The application form is available at http://commerce.wi.gov/SB/SB-GasSystemsProgram.html. This site also contains additional information about this program and its requirements. Applicants should print and complete the application, attach the correct fee, and mail necessary documentation to (address). Online payment is not yet available.
